In Psalm 106:3, the word blessed is translated from a Hebrew word that means fortune, blessedness, happiness. Many things can make us “happy.” Momentary experiences, like eating a favorite meal can make us happy. And long-term experiences, like enjoying a healthy marriage, can make us happy. However, the psalmist reminds us that doing what’s right (even when it’s contrary to our understanding) and treating others well (the way God treats them and the way He treats us) can bring us happiness (contentment and joy) that endures, even during times of trial and tribulation. So often, we equate happiness to what’s happening (or what we have) at any given moment in our lives. True happiness, however, is born out of our relationship with God and how we live out that relationship in our interactions and relationships with others. Scripture Reading: Psalm 106:1-5 |
